Discover Yuzu Sushi

Walking into Yuzu Sushi feels like stepping into a neighborhood spot that quietly takes its craft seriously. Located at 301 E Meadow Ave, East Meadow, NY 11554, United States, this sushi diner has become a regular stop for me over the past year, mostly because it balances consistency with creativity in a way that’s hard to fake. I’ve eaten sushi all over Long Island, from quick lunch counters to upscale omakase rooms, and this place sits comfortably in that sweet middle ground where quality meets approachability.

The menu leans Japanese at its core but doesn’t shy away from crowd-pleasing twists. Classic rolls like spicy tuna and salmon avocado are handled with care, using rice that’s seasoned lightly enough to let the fish shine. That detail matters more than people realize. According to research published by the National Fisheries Institute, freshness perception in sushi is strongly influenced by rice texture and temperature, not just the fish itself. You can tell the kitchen here understands that. The rice is warm, the cuts are clean, and nothing tastes rushed.

One visit that stands out was a busy Friday night when the dining room was packed and delivery orders were flying out the door. Even then, the sashimi platter arrived neatly arranged, with vibrant color and zero fishy odor, which is a major quality marker noted by the FDA’s seafood handling guidelines. I’ve worked briefly with a catering company that sourced raw fish, and improper storage shows up fast. Yuzu Sushi clearly follows proper cold-chain practices, something not every casual sushi restaurant gets right.

Beyond the raw offerings, the kitchen does a solid job with cooked items and appetizers. The gyoza has a crisp bottom and juicy filling, and the tempura stays light instead of greasy. That tells me the oil is monitored and changed regularly, a small operational detail that makes a big difference in taste and food safety. The miso soup is simple but comforting, the kind you actually finish instead of pushing aside.

Reviews from other diners often mention consistency, and that’s been my experience too. Whether I’m dining in or ordering takeout, the portions stay fair and the presentation holds up. A 2023 consumer dining study by Toast showed that repeat customers value reliability even more than novelty, and this restaurant seems to understand that long-game mindset. You don’t come here wondering if tonight will be a gamble.

Service is another strong point. The staff usually remembers returning guests, and questions about the menu are answered clearly, without upselling pressure. On one visit, I asked about the difference between two specialty rolls, and the server broke down the sauces and textures in plain language, which helped me choose something I actually enjoyed instead of guessing.

Location-wise, East Meadow is packed with dining options, but not all of them manage to feel local and polished at the same time. This spot does. Parking is straightforward, orders come out at a reasonable pace, and the atmosphere stays relaxed even during peak hours. It’s not trying to be trendy or exclusive, and that honesty works in its favor.

There are limits, of course. If you’re looking for a formal omakase experience or rare seasonal fish flown in daily, this may not hit that mark. The menu focuses on popular selections rather than ultra-niche items. Still, for a sushi restaurant serving a broad community, that balance makes sense and keeps quality under control.

From my experience and from reading dozens of local reviews, Yuzu Sushi earns its reputation by doing the fundamentals right every single day. Fresh ingredients, a well-thought-out menu, and steady execution are what keep people coming back, and this place delivers on all three without making a fuss about it.

  • This is a nice, intimate local sushi restaurant. I ordered the calamari, crispy rock shrimp, and two sushi rolls. I enjoyed the food.

  • Love this place! I frequently order from their Glen cove location (when you order take out it's a pleasure they take such care in packaging everything neatly and thoughtfully) and yesterday stopped by the East meadow to dine in. The food was hot and fresh. Beautifully plated and flavorful. We actually ordered a second beef dumpling order because it was so good! and the fried banana was melt in your mouth perfectly balanced. I might order it with icecream as well next time :) thank you Yuzu!!

  • Just started going here a few weeks ago. Great tasting and quality food!! Quick service. Editing my review - This place is extremely consistent with their quality of food. We have ordered from here at least 1x a week since our first visit, and never disappointed.

  • Usually for lunch I don't do anything that fancy. This time my friend and I decided to go for a more exotic experience. Yuzu is what we landed on. This place delivered us a great meal for a reasonable price. For $9.50 you can get what they call a bento box. Which comes with a miso soup, a salad, shumai and white rice to go with your main dish. I went with the chicken katsu lunch box myself and my friend order a chicken teriyaki dish. It was very good, portioned well, was a pleasant display and wasn't greasy at all. The whole experience was fast it took us about 30 mins to sit down, eat, pay and leave. Very good service and polite staff. I would certainly come back here for lunch again.

  • We came in on a Sunday about 8:40, well before the listed 9:30 closing time, and were warned as we came in that they actually close at 9:20. It seemed odd that it would be an issue with plenty of time to order; but apparently unlike most restaurants the closing time is a matter of when they expect you to actually leave. Still, with seemingly enough time, we ordered, and the appetizer - soft shell crab - came quickly. Unfortunately, though it was not one of the dishes listed as “spicy”, it came with spicy mayo on top. I told the server that I can’t eat spicy food, would not have ordered it if I had known, and asked her to take it back. She gave me an argument, saying I should have told her I can’t eat spicy food. I pointed out that since they list some dishes specifically as spicy, one would assume - as in most other restaurants - that the rest are not. She reluctantly took it back, and informed us the Angel Roll we had ordered, also not labeled spicy, came with spicy mayo on top as well, so we also asked for that to be redone. This pushed things closer to closing time, and rushed our meal a bit. But I have to say that the food was wonderful: The crab crisp outside, moist inside; the sushi fresh, and the pineapple shrimp fried rice delicious. So despite the unfortunate attitude we encountered, this restaurant is well worth the trip for the excellent food. Just keep in mind that the closing time is not what’s listed on the website. And that it’s best, whatever the menu says, to ask details before ordering.

  • Excellent quality sushi and sashimi. Especially recommend the tricolor sushi (tuna, salmon and yellowtail). Hand rolls are generous, miso soup is umami good. Free local delivery too.
